A Baby Court Offers Hope for Families

The cycle of poverty and court involvement hurts both children and families, so Genesee County, Michigan created a program called Baby Court in order to help end this cycle. Recognizing that effects of childhood experiences can be lifelong, and that trauma is the biggest threat in families that come to family court, Baby Court is based on trauma-informed practices, and provides infant mental health therapy and intensive wraparound services for families. Preventing and treating trauma in young children, as well as ensuring that families are invested in the process, has boosted the reunification rate for children under the age of three in foster care.
