An Australian Research Council has published a study that found a correlation between the ability to hear words and to read them. The study demonstrated that children who hear more words and have larger vocabularies in early childhood also have higher literacy skills. These findings confirm the importance of speaking to and reading to children as early as possible, in order to ensure adequate literacy skills, and set them up for success in school and later in life.
