Nationwide, 4.1% of children under age 18 in the U.S. do not have health insurance coverage.

In Connecticut, 3.5% of children (approximately 26,000) did not have health insurance coverage as of 2019 (visit the CT Health Foundation’s website to learn more about who is uninsured in CT).

In 2021 and 2022, the CT state legislature approved expansions of the state’s HUSKY Medicaid program to cover undocumented children up to age 12. This should further shrink the number of uninsured kids statewide.

Connecticut has a mental health parity law that requires health insurance plans to cover mental/behavioral health services at the same level as physical health services. Read a summary of the mental health parity law here.
