This article from The Hechinger Report details how the United States spends far less than other developed nations on early childhood. Investing in early childhood by allowing children to go to preschool, where they will be able to develop social, emotional, and cognitive skills, gives children a better chance at succeeding later down the road. Those who experience risk factors such as poverty, hunger, and abuse have a much harder time developing, which makes them less likely to succeed as adults. Providing access to free or affordable daycare in the United States is a step in the right direction, and several states are working on these types of programs.
