The 10 Basic Steps to Obtaining Special Education Services:

  1. Child is identified as possibly needing special education and related services.
  2. Child is evaluated.
  3. Eligibility is decided.
  4. Child is found eligible for services.
  5. Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting is scheduled.
  6. IEP meeting is held and IEP plan is written.
  7. After the IEP is written, services are provided.
  8. Progress is measured and reported to parents/caregivers.
  9. IEP is reviewed at least once per year and revised if needed.
  10. Child is re-evaluated at least every three years.
